Ray Lewis Claims Colin Kaepernick's Girlfriend's 'Django' Tweet Stopped The Ravens From Signing Him
Last month, Ray Lewis controversially advised Colin Kaepernick to quiet down his social activism. Kaep's girlfriend, Hot 97 personality Nessa Diab, immediately shot right back, blasting Lewis and Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti by tweeting and comparing them to a scene from the 2012 movie Django Unchained.
Well, just over a month later and Lewis claims that very tweet cost Kaepernick getting a quarterback gig with the Ravens.
"We were going to close the deal to sign him," Lewis said on Showtime's Inside the NFL on Tuesday night, as reported by ESPN. "Steve Bisciotti said, 'I want to hear Colin Kaepernick speak to let me know that he wants to play football.' And it never happens because that picture comes up the next day."
Lewis added, "His girl [Kaepernick's girlfriend] goes out and put out this racist gesture and doesn't know we are in the back office about to try to get this guy signed. Steve Bisciotti has said it himself, 'How can you crucify Ray Lewis when Ray Lewis is the one calling for Colin Kaepernick?'"
To Lewis's notion that Kaepernick didn't get signed to the Ravens because of Nessa's tweet, all she could do is shake her head in disgust while retweeting respected sports writer Mike Freeman, who called Lewis and the Ravens out for "lying."
Nessa's August 2 tweet compared Lewis and Bisciotti to the house slave and plantation owner played by Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio, respectively, in Django Unchained. And she made sure to at Lewis with the tweet.
Do you believe Lewis or does his explanation reek of a lame cover-up for the Ravens passing on Kaepernick?
