Ray Allen Aims at a Different Type of Long Shot
Ray Allen still hasn't formally announced his retirement from the NBA, but this planned venture might just close the chapter on one of the greatest careers the league has ever seen.
BizJournals.com is reporting that the two-time NBA champion and 10-time All-Star and his wife are launching an organic fast-food restaurant named Grown this spring in South Miami.
The website reports that the spot will feature a menu of locally-harvested organic dishes, available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Some of the dishes that will be served? Organic soups, sandwiches and salads along with gluten-free items, cold-pressed juices and fruit smoothies.
Hey, if the food is as clean as Ray's jump shot was, people are going to be interested in Grown.
"People want to be healthier, eat cleaner and feel better about what they’re putting in their bodies," Allen said in a statement, as reported by Biz Journals. "I know this from personal experience, and when Grown opens it will very much be a concept unlike anything else designed to be accessible by everyone, from the weekend warrior to the soccer mom and anyone in between."
His wife, Shannon Allen, adds that the decision to create an organic fast-food restaurant was inspired by the couple's son Walker, who has Type 1 diabetes.
"I had an aha-moment where I realized I couldn’t sit around helpless waiting for someone else to create a fast food option that met our family’s dietary needs," she said. "As we did our research it became obvious that this wasn’t a struggle unique to us, families everywhere are looking for convenience without compromise."
As part of the restaurant's launch, the Allens intend to use the location as a hub to also host cooking classes and wellness demonstrations to empower more people to eat cleaner and live healthier lifestyles.
