Chance the Rapper Helps Reward Chicago Schools With $100,000
Chance the Rapper helped present Chicago schools with $100,000 for completing the first ever Get Schooled, Get Connected challenge aimed at improving digital literacy, and preparing students for higher education. The Chicago native joined Christina Milian and Sway Calloway at Malcolm X College, Monday (Jan. 19) to reward students for completing the challnege.
Get Schooled, a non-profit organization founded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Viacom, partnered with Chicago City of Learning, and Comcast’s Internet Essential by Comcast to offer the semester-long exercises where students amassed points for completing weekly “quests” including trivia games, polls, and more. By the end of the challenge in early January, students earned over 50,000 points in addition to picking up college-prep and technological skills along the way.
The award money will be split between six Chicago schools and community organizations for new computers, better Internet access, and digital training.
Chance Instagrammed a photo with a student from the day’s event writing, "It means a lot when celebs come to the city and give back to a community they aren't from. Made a good friend today."
