Former Kansas Police Detective Accused of Assaulting Women Found Dead
A former Kansas police detective, accused of kidnapping and raping two women nearly two decades ago, has been found dead at his home.
Roger Golubski, 71, was discovered at his Edwardsville residence, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after failing to appear in court for charges related to the alleged crimes, according to The Kansas City Star.
A source who wished to remain anonymous confirmed his cause of death. Golubski had been facing six felony charges, including accusations that he had used his position as a police officer in Kansas City, Kansas, to sexually exploit vulnerable Black women over the course of several decades.
Federal authorities issued an arrest warrant for Golubski after prosecutors outlined in court filings that he intentionally targeted his victims, aware that their complaints would be dismissed and ignored.
The charges stemmed from a long-running investigation, which was, in part, sparked by the wrongful conviction of Lamonte McIntyre. McIntyre was exonerated in 2017 after serving more than two decades for a double murder he did not commit. The investigation also resulted in a second indictment, accusing Golubski of involvement in sex trafficking alongside a local drug kingpin.
Golubski had denied the charges, his defense attorneys claimed the allegations were fabricated.
