Solange Knowles is such a style maven so we're loving her candid interview with French blog Garance Dore about her fashion must-haves (like white silk blouses in all kinds of cuts) and how she maintains her natural hair. The DJ says she's a fan of natural oils and butter and Carol's Daughter products, which is fitting since she's currently the company's spokesperson and has helped them create a campaign for women transitioning to natural hair.
"Shampoo and conditioner Oil Monoi Carol’s Daughter," she says about her hair care routine. "I also use raw shea butter every day and the pure argan oil when [my curls] are really dry. Once a week, I take the time it takes to wash them and make a mask. Then I brush them gently, always starting with the tips. In general, I sit under a dryer to penetrate the mask. Then, once everything is rinsed and clean, I take two small sections of hair and I twist. I repeat the process, strand by strand. Then I take a shower, but I do not wet my hair, I just let the steam curl it a little. Sometimes I'm tired of doing all this, and I'll do braids or extensions, to get a break."
The DJ also uses Epicuren skin products and Neutrogena daily moisturizer with SPF 30. As for her fave accessory brands, Knowles adores Lia Sophia and Lorraine Schwartz rings, Aldo packs of simple studs and Illsteva sunglasses.
When it comes to bags, Knowles says she doesn't go as crazy over them because usually she sees them alongside shoes, and those are what get her heart racing.
"There’s not really any consistent measure of what I love in a shoe. I really, truly, simply, just love shoes in general. A beautiful designed shoe instantly sends my endorphins into overload. The older my son gets, and his daily activities become a part of my life…the more I crave comfort. These days it’s essential to have a sensible heel. It would be absolutely a disservice to name one designer, as my closet really houses everything from Alaïa to Nine West."
