Ex-Wig Stylist Sues Nicki Minaj for $30 Million
Nicki Minaj’s former mane man is fighting back.
Terrence Davidson, Minaj’s ex-wig designer responsible for many of her colorful, over-the-top hair pieces, filed a $30 million lawsuit in a district court in Atlanta on Friday against the YMCMB rapper claiming she stole wig designs and sold and licensed them while cutting him out of the profits, TIME exclusively reports.
"Her lawyers may complicate it, but we don’t need to get into intellectual-property law. This is basic American morality. Nicki Minaj lied to this man and cheated him,” Christopher Chestnut, Davidson's attorney, tells the news outlet.
In the complaint, Davidson says he and Minaj planned to create a wig line together and film a reality TV show with Davidson as the star. However, he says neither of those plans materialized, and that the MC’s team shut him out from residuals from Minaj-branded wigs sold through her website, as well as miniature versions that appear on the tops of her popular fragrances. He is asking for at least $30 million in damages if the case goes to trial.
After first linking up in 2010 creating memorable looks like Pink Upper Bun Wig and the Pink High Top, Davidson formally parted ways with Minaj in January 2013, citing creative differences.
