Mobb Deep Inks Deal With Sony's RED Distribution
Mobb Deep has just announced a new deal with Sony’s RED Distribution that will help ensure their “Infamy” doesn’t fade anytime soon.
The Queensbridge veterans issued a press release confirming the new relationship between their own Infamous Records and RED Distribution, the independent distribution arm of Sony Music. The deal will cover Mobb’s upcoming self-titled ninth album, future releases and any new film projects. The group had previously been signed to 50 Cent's G Unit.
"After almost 20 years in this industry, it was inevitable for us to take matters into our own hands. We feel that RED is the perfect home for our brand," Prodigy said in the statement. "We know who our fans are and what they want from Mobb Deep. We're excited to take a new step in our career," Havoc added.
The deal is a big step for QB’s Finest, who had been sidelined musically because of Prodigy’s prison sentence for weapon possession. However, they made waves earlier this year with the release of the recently freed rapper’s tell-all book My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep's Prodigy, which detailed the group’s rise to fame and dished plenty of dirt on other hip hop luminaries, including Jay-Z, Capone and Ja Rule.
Bob Morelli, president of RED Distribution, also spoke on the Infamous' new deal, praising the game-changing group. "Mobb Deep is an iconic act, having been on the cutting edge of music and social commentary for years. We are happy and excited to distribute the next chapter in their musical career."
Survival of the fittest, indeed.
