The weekend was full of free events, carnival rides and hairstyling sessions complete with a free mental health panel manned by the Don himself, where he led a candid discussion about taking care of himself mentally, spiritually and physically. 

The philanthropic event was capped off with one sweet surprise that will help foster the arts among the youth for generations to come. Previously, Sean built a recording studio at his old high school in 2015, and now the hometown hero is going a step further to support his hometown’s art scene. 

This Saturday (Aug. 17), Sean unveiled a $100K state-of-the-art production studio at a local Boys and Girls club complete with everything young creatives will need to thrive.

Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Sean said that organizations like Boys & Girls club are a fundamental resource in children’s lives that can truly make a difference. 

"I think it can save somebody’s life, if they have somewhere to go. I think it can change somebody’s life. It can be the start of million-dollar companies,” the rapper shared. “It all starts here. I think there are going to be a lot more millionaires and billionaires from Detroit, and I think the Boys & Girls Club is going to have something to do with that."

The generous act is further magnified by the fact that the club Big Sean donated to is one of only five in the region.

“The West Side of Detroit is my old neighborhood,” he said. “It’s a full-circle moment when your neighborhood supports you and holds you high, and you’re in a position to be able to hold it up in your own way and take it further.”

The space will also be dedicated to hosting live performances, movie nights and special classes on topics not readily available as screenwriting.
