Dame Dash: Jay Z Friendship Was Never Real
The fall of Roc-A-Fella Records is one that still weighs on Dame Dash. In an interview with Wiretapped Live, Dash briefly discussed his status with Kanye West and what he believes to be a fake friendship with Jay Z.
While Ye and Dash are still “just as close” as they were back in the day, he can’t say the same for Hov. “It bothers me because I put a lot in a brand and for whatever reason I couldn’t monetize it anymore,” he told host Sharon Carpenter.
When Dash was pushed out of the company he helped found, the Harlem native assumed Jay wanted the label for himself. Today, he’s not sure what happened. “Jay made a point that I shouldn’t have it,” he said of Roc-A-Fella. “I was thinking at the time it must’ve been ‘cause he wanted it but it couldn’t have been because there’s no Roc-A-Fella no more. So what was the purpose?”
Dash figures that the friendship wasn’t “real” because business was able to tear it apart. “Our friendship was built on our business obviously,” said Dash. “I become friendly with people I work with. I really thought we were friends, but I guess I got gaffled.”
