Eminem Hits GOP Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy with Cease and Desist Over Using Music At Campaign Events
Vivek Ramaswamy may be a fan of Eminem’s; however, the reverse isn’t so.
On Monday (August 28), the GOP presidential candidate was hit with a cease and desist letter by the Detroit rapper, asking him to stop performing his songs at campaign events.
“To the American people’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real slim shady,” Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Ramaswamy campaign, said Monday night to NBC News.

The Daily Mail first reported that the performing rights organization BMI told the campaign last Wednesday that it “has received a communication from Marshall B. Mathers, III, professionally known as Eminem, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign’s use of Eminem’s musical compositions.
“BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto,” the letter added.
After learning of BMI’s letter, the 38-year-old Republican responded on Twitter, tweeting, “Will The REAL Slim Shady Please Stand Up? He didn’t just say what I think he did, did he?”
Ramaswamy is referring to Eminem’s 2000 hit “The Real Slim Shady,” which he has previously rapped along to during campaign events. He’s also rapped the Grammy-winning rapper’s 2002 song “Lose Yourself,” most notably at the Iowa State Fair.
