2022 NAACP Image Awards: 5 Award Winning Songs to Add to Your Playlists

The tracks kept us jamming all year long.

The 53rd Annual NAACP Image Awards not only honored some of the best in movie and television but in theater, literature, and music. The latter saw some of the biggest acts from the last year take home the award for categories, including Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Contemporary), Outstanding Soul/R&B Song, Outstanding New Artist, and more. As we look back at yet another fantastic night, here are 5 NAACP Image Award-winning songs we think you should add to your playlist.

  • Silk Sonic — "Leave the Door Open"

    Grammy Award winners Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic were the most talked-about duo last year, and the buzz talked them right into award glory. Their steamy soulful viral sensation “Leave the Door Open” earned them an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Traditional). They also snatched the Song of the Year award and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2021 Soul Train Awards.

  • Tobe Nwigwe Feat. Fat Nwigwe — "Fye Fye"

    Tobe Nwigwe Feat. Fat Nwigwe won the Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Contemporary)  and Oustanding Hip Hop Song award for the track "Fye Fye.” The base-heavy up-tempo motivate track features a trippy verse from Tobe’s wife Fat, who also appears in the colorful visual glowing as she flaunts her growing belly—the couple is expecting their third child.

  • Wizkid featuring Tems & Justin Bieber — "Essence"

    Nigerian-based stars Wizkid and Tems had the airwaves on lock when they released their uptempo collaborative effort “Essence.” The hype was further heightened when Wizkids enlisted Grammy Award Winning global pop star, Justin Bieber, winning Outstanding International Song and Music Video for the original at this year’s celebration.

  • Jazmine Sullivan — “Pick Up Your Feelings"

    Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings" earned the singer-songwriter the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Soul/R&B Song. The r&b track peaked at No.2 on US R&B/Hip-Hop on Billboard charts. The song received two nominations for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance at the 64th annual Grammy Awards.

  • Saweetie Feat. Doja Cat - "Best Friend"

    Saweetie and Doja Cat’s best anthem of 2021, “Best Friend,” earned Outstanding New Artist at this year’s ceremony. Pitchfork ranked it number 54 on their list of “The 100 Best Songs of 2021.” The uptempo track celebrates friendship, success, independence, and more
