Tyler Perry’s Son Doesn’t Really Care For Fame Just Yet
Tyler Perry has enjoyed massive success throughout his career and became the first African American to own his own film studio in Atlanta, Georgia - but none of that matters a big deal to his son just yet.
While promoting the release of 'A Madea Homecoming', Perry shared about life with his seven-year-old son, Aman Tyler, who doesn’t quite care about fame just yet in an appearance on The Elle DeGeneres Show.
“I asked him, ‘Do you know what famous is?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s when a lot of people know your name,'” Perry says. “So I said, ‘You know, by that definition, some people think I’m famous.’ He goes, ‘Really? Can we finish coloring now?'” The “Alex Cross” star said his son’s unconcerned reaction to his celebrity status “grounds everything.”
He goes on to share how his son’s godmother, Oprah Winfrey, gives the best gifts that often involve a collection of books for him to read.
“My son’s not online, and things like that, he doesn’t have an iPad. He gets to watch some things on the iPad, maybe 30 minutes every now and then, but the books. She sends great gifts,” he says.
Perry also expressed that he tries his best to keep his son out of public spaces to private his privacy. The mogul shares his son with his ex-girlfriend Gelila Bekele whom he met at a Prince concert in 2007 and separated in 2020.
“We’ve been very fortunate to keep us out of public spaces when we’re traveling and things like that,” he told Ellen. “So that allows him to not see all the madness that happens.”
