Factsss! Halsey Calls Out Hotel Business For Lack Of Black Beauty Products

She's not sorry, even with the backlash. This convo is about privilege and consideration.

We’ve all experienced it before: while unpacking, you realized you forgot your fave sulfate-free shampoo at home, and now you’ve been sentenced to rely on the hotel's complementary shampoo—total vacay fail.

Let’s keep it real, those mini shampoos do nothing for us natural hair girls with loads of curls; not to mention there’s only about enough product to lather our edges. Like, c’mon hotels, where are the beauty products for WOC?

Turns out singer Halsey had the same feelings, choosing to voice her complaints last week (April 26) on Twitter.

"I've been traveling for years now and it's been so frustrating that the hotel industry entirely alienates people of color," said the 23-year-old singer known for her love of cornrows. "I can't use this perfumed watered down white people shampoo. Neither can 50% of ur customers. Annoying."

Instantly a Twitter debate ensued.

While some sided with the biracial singer who made it clear to Playboy she may “look like a white girl, but I don’t feel like one. I’m a black woman," others called her out for having less coarse hair.

Surprised by the backlash she was receiving, Halsey returned to Twitter with a series of tweets to clarify to those who were "missing the point" that the convo wasn't just about shampoos, it was about privilege and consideration.

See why she's "not sorry" for bringing the reality to light:

It does make you wonder - if a hotel is looking to provide a great experience for all of their guests, then why wouldn’t they put some effort into making sure guests have beauty products that can assist in their comfort?

Just something to think about.
