The Weeknd Is Protesting Donald Trump
There are a lot of people who detest Donald Trump. The now-confirmed Republican nominee for president made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday (May 26) and not everyone was happy about it, including the scheduled musical guests.
The Weeknd and rapper Belly were billed to perform on the nightly show but canceled in protest of Trump's appearance. The pair were going to perform "Might Not," however Belly, who’s Muslim, explained why he decided not to show up.
"I feel like the way I was raised was to be able to see through all the titles in this world — from religion to race," Belly said in a statement to the Associated Press. "I just didn't want to feel like I was a part of a celebration for somebody who has beliefs that majority of us don't agree with." The Weeknd did not comment when prompted.
Donald Trump has previously called for a temporary ban on all Muslims attempting to enter the United States. He’s ran on a platform of rhetoric that many describe as derogatory toward numerous ethnic groups.
