Eddie Murphy to Portray Funk Legend George Clinton in Biopic
Eddie Murphy is getting funky for his upcoming role as Parliament-Funkadelic leader George Clinton.
According to Deadline, the legendary stand-up comedian will reunite with former collaborator Bill Condon, who will direct the untitled biopic for Amazon MGM Studios.
Condon previously directed Murphy in the 2006 film “Dreamgirls.” The actor’s portrayal of the fictional James Early earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor.
Inspired by Clinton’s memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?, the film explores the untold story of this groundbreaking funk pioneer and his turbulent journey in creating the legendary musical collective Parliament-Funkadelic.
Renowned for their extravagant sci-fi themes and psychedelic performances, Clinton and his band transformed the landscape of music and culture with their wild and innovative approach.
Murphy will produce the film via Eddie Murphy Productions, John Davis via Davis Entertainment, and Greg Yolen.
