Zendaya Finally Breaks Her Silence On Live-Action 'The Little Mermaid' Casting Rumor
It has been rumored for weeks now that Zendaya has been offered the role of one of Disney's most widely recognized and beloved princesses, Ariel, in an upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
Now, after the unconfirmed news has spread like wildfire, the young actress is speaking out and sharing a few details about what's coming for her.
After telling People that she is not opposed to playing the red-haired princess, making her the first African-American actress to do so, Zendaya clarified, "It's just a rumor, so we will see."
The Smallfoot star, 22, did mention, though, that the popular Disney princess story quickly became one of her favorites as a child.
"I love The Little Mermaid," she said. "It is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. I was obsessed with it when I was a little kid."
In terms of the trajectory of her career, Zendaya added that she's just excited for what is to come.
"I am an actor, I just like good roles," she added. "Things I can soak into and really sink my teeth into. I always try to find characters that I can find some human connection to."
Hopefully Ariel is one of those, as she would make an exciting addition to the Disney princess family.
