Doechii Joins Ms. Lauryn Hill for Epic ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ Duet
Some co-signs hit different, and Doechii just got a legendary one.
The Grammy Award winning rapper reached a career milestone over the weekend when Ms. Lauryn Hill invited her onstage for a surprise duet of “Doo Wop (That Thing).”The memorable moment occurred during Hill’s headlining set at the Jazz in the Gardens Festival at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on March 8.
Doechii had already performed earlier in the day but returned to the stage when Hill introduced her “sister” to the crowd.
“I want to introduce y’all to another sister,” The Fugees co-founder announced before kicking off the 1998 hit.
Doechii held her own alongside the hip-hop legend, delivering her verses with energy and reverence as the crowd roared in approval.
After the show, the Tampa native took to social media to reflect on the moment.
“Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill,” she wrote. “Thank you. My heart is so full. She is my hero. This is the greatest honor hip-hop could give me. Praise God … my entire body is vibrating with joy right now. I’ll never forget this day! EVER!”
She continued, “I’ve never been so nervous in my life. She is a QUEEN.”
The moment is yet another high point in Doechii’s whirlwind year. Fresh off winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album—making her only the third woman to claim the honor—she was also named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, joining an elite roster that includes SZA, Lady Gaga, and more.
And just last week, fans were treated to an official drop of “Anxiety.” The track, originally an unreleased cut from a few years ago, features a notable sample of Gotye’s 2011 hit “Somebody That I Used to Know.” After gaining traction on TikTok, the buzz led Doechii and her TDE label to officially release the full version on streaming platforms.
