BET Awards 2024: Get Familiar with Flau’Jae, Aspiring Rapper and College Basketball Superstar

The LSU Tigers star was recently nominated for the 'Sportswoman of the Year Award.'

Known for her electrifying performances and relentless drive, LSU Tigers star Flau'jae Johnson has quickly become a standout player in women's basketball. 

Her remarkable skill set and an innate ability to lead have propelled her team to new heights this season. Averaging impressive statistics and consistently delivering in high-pressure moments, Johnson's contributions have not only garnered her individual accolades but have also elevated the profile of women's sports on a broader scale.

This year, the young star earned a nomination for the “Sportswoman of the Year Award” at the upcoming BET Awards 2024, hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson. 

The 20-year-old is recognized alongside several of the sport’s most talked-about athletes, including Coco Gauff, Juju Watkins, Naomi Osaka, Sha’Carri Richardson, Simone Biles, A’Ja Wilson, and former teammate Angel Reese

    Flau'jae is a guard for the LSU Tigers. Known for her quick reflexes and sharp shooting, she has become a key player for her team, contributing significantly to their successes on the court. Johnson and her teammates were named the NCAA Champion in 2023.

  • She’s accomplished numerous significant achievements

    In high school, the young athlete made history as the first McDonald’s All-American recruited to LSU by Kim Mulkey. 

    Johnson was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the 2022-2023 season.

  • She’s a multi-hyphenate

    Flau'jae is not just a basketball star but also an accomplished rapper.  The rapper has collaborated with major artists, including NLE Choppa and rap veteran Boosie. 

    After some time, Johnson’s talents ultimately earned her a record deal with Roc Nation.

  • Her father was well-known in Savannah’s music scene

    Flau'jae is the daughter of the late rapper Camouflage, who was a well-known figure in the Savannah, Georgia, music scene. She continues to honor her dad’s legacy through her own music career. 

    Camouflage was shot and killed in May 2003, about six months before Flau’jae’s birth. His murder remains unsolved.

  • You might’ve seen her on reality television

    The public was first introduced to the athlete’s musical abilities in 2018 when she auditioned for season three of America's Got Talent at age 14. At the time, she performed an original song about her background and her father’s murder.

    Johnson later appeared on Jermaine Dupri’s The Rap Game during season three alongside rapper King Roscoe.
