Mariah Carey’s ‘Glitter’ Soundtrack Album Is Now Available On Streaming Platforms
Nearly two decades after its release, Mariah Carey’s soundtrack album, Glitter, has hit streaming services.
“A lil' late, a lil' late, but to show my appreciation for #JusticeForGlitter, it’s now finally available everywhere!” Carey announced via Twitter on Friday (May 22). “I thought we could all use some retro fun during this time,” she added.
The R&B songbird shared the links to the platforms where fans can now stream the 2001 record. There were a few hints that the “Touch My Body” songstress had a surprise up her sleeve after Carey shared a captionless photo of her character from the 2001 flick of the same title, Billie Frankie, on Thursday (May 21).
The soundtrack was originally released as the audio companion to the musical rom com, which famously received poor reviews upon its 2001 release. At the time of its release, the Glitter soundtrack album was a commercial failure. But, in 2017, the album unexpectedly topped the iTunes chart 17 years after the film’s release. The feat was accomplished after her ever-loyal fanbase launched the #JusticeForGlitter campaign, according to Rolling Stone.
“That’s the Lambs. They had this movement, it was called hashtag Justice for Glitter, which I think was directed at me because I never really perform those songs because it almost ruined my life,” Carey said during an appearance on Good Morning America in 2018 while promoting her 15th studio album, Caution.
“But the truth is, it’s for nostalgia now because it’s actually a really good album. I can say it now that they got it to No. 1. So, I thank them,” she continued. “And I should not have to feel bad about that because it was all about the circumstances when the album came out, so it’s exciting.”
