Drake's OVO Record Label Inks Deal With Warner Bros.
October's Very Own, the Toronto-based collective founded by Drake and his closest collaborators, is now its own record label. Drizzy has reportedly inked a deal with Warner Bros. Records to create a new imprint under the OVO umbrella, Billboard reports.
Drake has affiliated with October's Very Own almost since the inception of his career, before he signed his own record deal with Young Money/Cash Money Records at Universal. It has historically consisted of himself, producer and engineer Noah "40" Shebib and a handful of artists and designers. The group has a website/blog, limited line of branded apparel and an annual music festival in Toronto. No other musicians have flown under the OVO flag, although fellow Toronto-based artist The Weeknd is a close friend and collaborator.
In a fashion similar to Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group, which is also a Warner imprint, Drake is expected to continue to release his own solo projects through Young Money/Universal, while artists signed to October's Very Own will be released via Warner Bros. Ross himself has a solo deal with Def Jam.
