Everyone needs a girlfriend who keeps it real, and who better to cover Essence magazine’s first-ever “Girlfriends Issue” than Wendy Williams, who’s known for telling it like it is?

Gracing two different covers that were shot by Derek Blanks, the TV host tells the magazine how she’s doing with her surge in success: "It's my time. I have my health; I have support at home. The time is right," she told the magazine. She also says what kind of friend she is. "I'm the girlfriend in your head who's got a few miles on you and will give you the best advice I can.”

Look for more quotes about friendship in the issue from celebrity besties—including Beyoncé and mom Tina Knowles; Sherri Shepherd and Niecy Nash; Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah; Kelly Rowland and Brandy; Monica and Keyshia Cole.

In addition, Essence is celebrating BFFs everywhere and has declared April 13—the day the issue hits stands—“Girlfriends Appreciation Day.” The magazine invites women to join in the “celebration of sisterhood, and do something extra special for your "bestie" on that day—whether it's a spa treat, a trip to the mall, or dinner at her favorite restaurant.”
