Jidenna Calls On The Culture To Protect Black Women

The musician had some fiery words for in response to the recent issues concerning Breonna Taylor and Megan Thee Stallion.

A long outspoken advocate on social justice issues, Jidenna took to Twitter to issue some fiery words in the wake of the Tory Lanez’s album release.

  • Amid news that no charges would be brought against the Louisville police officers that took part in the March 13 botched raid that claimed Breonna Taylor’s life, Lanez returned to Twitter after months of radio silence on his end last Thursday (September 24). “To my fans ... I’m sorry for my silence .... but respectfully .. I got time today ...... 9 PM PST,” the 27-year-old wrote in response to the July 12 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion. However, instead of setting the record straight, the Canadian artist dropped a 17-track album, titled Daystar, which is also his first name, wherein he denied shooting Megan on the lead single, “Money Over Fallouts.” He also dissed other celebrities that spoke up in Megan’s defense on the record.

  • A few of those celebrities included Keke Palmer, Rick Ross, and Halsey, each of whom denounced his actions. The move is not sitting right with Jidenna’s spirit either.

“The f****ry of this week — the Breonna Taylor verdict, the Tory Lanez release, the childish men in the comments — has me suppressing rage,” he tweeted.

Jidenna continued his sentiments by pointing out the culture’s long-standing issue with misogynoir, abuse and lack of support that Black women face.

“F**k all that ‘King’ talk if you don’t ride for Breonna, if you don’t believe Megan, if you don’t protect the women who have been protecting us,” he further issued.

  • Backlash has continued to pour in from across social media amid Tory Lanez’s album release. The project arrived weeks after Megan publicly identified him as the one who shot her in August after weeks of online speculation. Back in July, the hip-hop community was rocked by startling reports that the Houston rapper had been shot in both of her feet following a Hollywood Hills party.
