People Are Dragging the FBI for This MLK Assassination Anniversary Tweet
'I'd sit this one out if I were you.'
Today marks the anniversary of the terrible assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee. While staying in the Lorraine Hotel, King was shot by James Earl Ray while he stood out on his hotel room balcony.
In honor of this anniversary, the FBI sent a tweet honoring Dr. King
Instead of receiving an overwhelming amount of likes, the tweet received immediate backlash because the FBI heavily attempted to bring down MLK
Under the FBI's counterintelligence program (COINTELPRO), King was subjected to surveillance and many attempts to discredit his work
Under Director J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI worked to uncover alleged ties between King and Communist influence. When King criticized the Bureau's handling of racial investigations, Hoover called King the "most notorious liar in the country," as reported by the King Encyclopedia by Stanford University.

The FBI's past attempt to destroy King and his legacy has made nearly everyone tell the agency to take a seat and stop tweeting
