Scarface Remembers Good Friend Tupac Shakur As a Prankster
Scarface enjoyed a close relationship with Tupac Shakur. The two legendary rappers were so tight that Scarface fell victim to a prank orchestrated by Shakur.
At a recent stop on his “Behind the Desk Experience Tour,” Face took a moment after performing his classic “Mary Jane” to share the details of Tupac’s prank, which happened when he was high on marijuana in LA.
“First time I got to California, I’m in LA, smoking LA weed. We ain’t ever had no sh*t like this before,” Scarface said. “I’m living in Burbank and recording the Untouchable album. It’s my first time getting high with some LA chronic."
Shakur came up with a plan to pay Scarface a visit and showed up unannounced acting as law enforcement.
“My homeboy pull up on me man; he got a black Hummer with a f**king siren and loudspeaker on it,” he continued. “I’m in my apartment in Burbank high as f**k for the first time ever, and they come up and they go, ‘Brad Jordan, we know you’re in there, come out with your hands up.’"
Hearing his name called by the “police” was enough to sober him up.
“I’m on the couch like this, and my motherf**king high says [motions walking away gesture]... He just blew my f**king high, man..."
"He wanted to go to the studio and record, right? He wanted me to ride in this Hummer with him," Scarface continued. "I’m not going anywhere with him because he does not have a driver’s license. And he can’t drive at all."
Eventually, the two legends would connect in the studio and create “Smile” which Scarface seamlessly segued into during the concert.
“It’s gonna be some stuff you gonna see that’s gonna make it hard for you to smile,” Scarface said at the beginning of the song. “But I just want you to know, but through all that and the pain, you got to keep ya head up.”
“Smile” was officially released just a few months after Tupac was killed in Vegas in September 1996.
