Diff'rent Strokes Star Conrad Bain Dies at 89
Another one of the beloved cast members of the classic TV series Diff’rent Strokes has passed. TMZ is reporting that actor Conrad Bain, who played Phillip Drummond on the popular '70s-'80s series, has died. He was 89.
Family sources say Bain passed away at a retirement home in Livermore, California, on Monday. The actor’s daughter Jennifer told TMZ, “He was an amazing person. He was a lot like Mr. Drummond, but much more interesting in real life. He was an amazing father.”
His three sons, one daughter and a twin brother, Bonar Bain, survive Bain.
The actor, who also appeared on '70s sitcom Maude, was probably best known as the warm hearted patriarch on the popular family sitcom Diff’rent Strokes. As Phillip Drummond, Bain became a household name along with Dana Plato, Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges on the iconic sitcom.
Bridges has released a statement about Bain’s death. The actor says he spoke to his TV dad just last week and admits being heartbroken by his loss.
“I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Conrad as we were looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday next month,” Bridges told TMZ. "In addition to being a positive and supportive father figure both on and off-screen, Conrad was well-loved and made going to work each day enjoyable for all of us. He will be missed, but never forgotten."
