Simone Biles’ Husband Jonathan Owens Admits He Didn’t Know That She Was A Famous Athlete When They First Met
Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens is well known on the football field, but it’s safe to say that his wife, superstar Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is likely more of a household name. This is why it’s hard for Biles fans to understand Owens’ latest comments that he only learned of her superstar athletic status after they first met.
According to Fox News, Owens, 28, admitted on "The Pivot Podcast" on Wednesday (December 20) that he was unaware of his wife's exceptional achievements as an Olympian before they met on the exclusive dating app Raya.
The NFL star explained that seeing Biles on the app "piqued my curiosity,” while having no idea she was the most decorated gymnast of all time.
Bruh!
Still, the winning play was made by the four-time Gold medalist, Biles. Not only did she leave him "some likes on my Instagram," but the 26-year old Biles took her interest up a notch and slid into this brotha's DM.
"I didn’t know who she was at the time, but the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers so in my mind, I’m like, ‘OK, she's got to be good,'" said Owens.
"When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and we’re in camp," he explained. "So I’m not paying attention to—I never would have had a moment to where I would have watched."
Ironically, after college, Owens spent four seasons as a cornerback with the Houston Texans in the gymnast's hometown.
After linking up during the COVID-19 pandemic, sparks flew for these two, while Owens said they "hit it off instantly, just laughed the whole night."
Then, during a public outing, he got a front-row seat to witness the depths of her out-of-this-world talent.
"I think it was like a Sunday, we went…it was all these moms and they’re there with their kids, and we walked past and everybody stopped. Kids are shaking. They asked me, ‘Hey, can you take this picture?'" shared Owens.
Following their budding romance, these two elevated their love story to new heights after tying the knot in April 2023. They are currently building their dream home in Texas.
Owens is catching some heat since his comments on the show also noted that he believes he’s the “catch” in this relationship, saying that he initially "was fighting" the commitment of being with just one woman at that point in his life and his career.
"I'm like, 'It's kinda early.' But you know, it happens when you least expect it." he said.
The internet has no chill and fans of Biles, who was just named AP Female Athlete of the Year for the third time, have been clear to let Owens know that he should reconsider who’s the “catch” in this situation. See some of their responses below:
