Erykah Badu and Daughter Puma Curry Appear in New Marni Collab Campaign
Italian luxury brand Marni has partnered with Erykah Badu and her daughter Puma Curry are the faces of a dynamic new line that debuted last weekend in Miami.
According to Footwear News, Badu and Curry were joined by actress Tracee Ellis Ross, Teyana Taylor, model Paloma Elsesser and more to celebrate the launch.
The new Marni x Erykah Badu collection includes women’s ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear expressed through tactile materials like hand-made leather patchworks, rich velvets, extra-large sequins and dense wools.
In a statement, the company wrote, "Marni expands its ever-evolving creative practice with #ERYKAHBADUxMARNI, a limited-edition capsule collection co-designed by creative director Francesco Risso @asliceofbambi and American singer-songwriter Ms. Erykah Badu @erykahbadu. Linked by a shared creative sensitivity and synchronicity, Risso and Badu’s distinctive artistic voices are translated into designs that embody a polyform narrative of garments, fusing Marni’s artisanal values with her singular aesthetic."
They added, "The campaign images capture the capsule’s spiritual and creative conviction, as they are photographed in Dallas, a metropolis that collects the heritage of Ms. Erykah Badu’s words and music."
The #ERYKAHBADUxMARNI is exclusively available in selected Marni boutiques.
Highlights of the collection include a metallic gold leather jacket is amplified with shearling accents done in a soft palette; dresses, skirts and shirts are fully embroidered with onyx, silver, gold and bronze sequins; and oversized striped, knit capes and blankets.
Additionally, the collaboration includes a pair of thigh-high boots crafted in metallic leather, and accessories including Marni’s signature Venice bag in two iterations – patchwork and gold leather embellished with tinkling bells. Bracelets, armlets, tiaras, necklaces and earrings encrusted with crystals and gems finish the line.
Both Badu and her doppelganger daughter attended the Met Gala this year wearing designs by Marni.
Retail prices in the collection range from $2,100 to $9,300 for accessories and from $4,785 to $11,800 for ready-to-wear items.
