Legendary hip-hop figure Busta Rhymes took center stage at the 2024 MTV EMAs to claim the prestigious Global Icon Award.
UK-based emcee Little Simz presented the award during Sunday night’s ceremony at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena.
In his heartfelt acceptance speech, the East Flatbush, NY native revealed that it was his first time attending the MTV Europe Music Awards.“34 years of professional recording, this is the first time I’m getting an award from MTV, and it feels fucking incredible, yo,” the 52-year-old shared.
Busta also credited fellow veteran emcee LL Cool J as his inspiration, thanking him for his influence on early hip-hop culture, and expressed gratitude to his “best friend and hero,” his mom.
He later took to the stage for a fiery performance of a medley of hits, including “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” “I Know What You Want,” “Do the Busabus Pt 2,” “Look At Me Now,” and more.
Busta Rhymes now joins a group of iconic acts who have received the award, including the late Whitney Houston, Eminem, U2, and more.
