Webbie Will Have Lil Boosie Feature on Savage Life 3
“All the way turnt up” is how Baton Rouge rapper Webbie describes his current disposition. The unabashed rhyme slinger has been off the rap grid of late, but he’s reemerged to promote the release of his upcoming album, Savage Life 3.
Stopping by 106 and Park to judge Freestyle Friday the busy-body rapper cooled his jets long enough to chat with BET.com about the status of his incarcerated rap cohort Lil Boosie and rundown the details surrounding his next LP.
With his long time collaboration Boosie Bad Azz facing murder and conspiracy charges Webbie explains that it’s been hard for him to keep in contact with his friend lately.
“Man Boosie on lock down,” Webbie tells BET.com. “Before he was on lockdown I could call around and talk to him.”
Remaining tight-lipped about Boosie’s upcoming trial, Webbie admits he’s trying to stay positive while Boosie is facing the death penalty for his alleged crimes.
“God [is] real. Free Boosie baby, he coming home.”
In Boosie’s absence Webbie is doing his part to keep their label Trill Entertainment musically relevant. After releasing his latest mixtape Trill 4 Life earlier this summer the rapper is banking on impressing fans with the third installment of his Savage Life series. Webbie promises that fans will enjoy the organic sounds he’s crafting from a host of upstart producers.
“I like good music first” says Webbie, who recently inked a new deal with Universal Records. “I don’t want to know who produced the music first; I just like a hot beat. When you have to give so and so [producer] $250k for a beat you start to think man, I don’t need to spend that just to make this sh-- shake.”
With a proven catalogue of hits from each of his previous solo albums like 2005’s club smash “Give Me That” featuring Bun B, as well as the 2008 Savage Life 2 follow up “Independent” featuring Lil Phat and Lil’ Boosie, the disheveled Bayou MC does appear to have method to his madness.
Guest spots on SL3 will include Bobby V, Lil Boosie, Lil Phat. Webbie plans to go with the Lil Phat assisted “What’s Happenin’ as his first single of Savage Life 3, which is scheduled to be in stores on November 15.
