As the families of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, attempt to pick up the pieces following the tragic murder-suicide on Saturday [December 1], R&B star Trey Songz is clearing his name from reports that the couple fought soon after Perkins returned home from a Songz concert.

The "Successful" singer took to his Twitter page to react to the incident and deny any alleged ties.

"I don't delete tweets, nor am I insensitive to death. I had no knowledge of the murder/suicide incident until now & even still...," tweeted the R&B star. "As sad as it may be, it has nothing to do with me. Sending prayers up to the families and friends of the people involved."

Rumors are circulating that Perkins was having an affair with Songz, which sent her boyfriend into a rage. There's no confirmation whether or not a relationship with the singer played a role in the heat-of-passion murder.

News of the shocking tragedy rocked the NFL community early Saturday morning. The 25-year-old NFL player murdered his girlfriend (the couple have a 3-month-old baby girl together) after the two argued. Shortly thereafter, Belcher traveled to the Chiefs facility and then killed himself in front of team general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel. Investigators and loved ones are still coping with the tragedy.

On Sunday the Chiefs defeated the Carolina Panthers in a game that left players and coaches physically and emotionally spent.
