See The Bright Lipsticks That Are Officially Brown Girl-Approved

Find out which brands—and colors—made the cut, according to some real women.

When it comes to Black women and beauty trends, there are some crazy urban myths out there. The biggest one? That we can't rock bright lipstick. Say what?

Recently, Gucci Mane's bride-to-be, Keyshia Ka'oir, reminded everyone that despite what you see on the 'gram, she was actually a pioneer in the colored lipstick craze — way before other mainstream brands jumped on board. "What's crazy is [that] I started my line in 2010, and I'm the one who started the whole blue lipstick and the glitter lipstick trend," she told ESSENCE.

Even if you aren't daring enough to reach for a neon shade just yet, you can still participate in the lipstick party. We're always fans of classic red, bright pink, orange, and purple for an instant pop on any complexion.

For those who need help navigating the beauty counter, we spoke to a few women of color (including our own BET Style editors) to see which shades their coveting day in and out.

"It's really hard to find a matte lipstick that doesn't feel as dry as the Sahara. However, Clinique figured it out. The creamy formula stays on all day long and is just the right shade of bright pink to complement my skin tone without making me look silly." — BET Style Beauty Editor Janell Hickman.

"I wear this color all year round because with my skin-tone and a little bronzer, it gives off the illusion that I’m fresh off some tropical island with this amazing bronze-y tan. It instantly levels up any look that I’m wearing and I always receive compliments from both men and women. It has a matte finish makes for a very sultry, vixen look, hence its name." — Jacqueline Smith.

  3. Revlon Matte Balm in Passionate

"I have full lips, so it’s difficult for me to rock bright lipstick colors without me feeling a bit over the top. My cousin put me on to this lipstick—or lip balm—because it was affordable and I could get it from CVS, which is pretty awesome. It's really bright doesn't feel overdone—I was impressed." — Candice Grevious.
