Anthony Hamilton Took Us All To Church With His Version Of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ During The All-Star Game

He’s drawing comparisons to Marvin Gaye.

The beginning of the 2019 NBA All-Star game seemed to induce a feeling of déjà vu for many as Anthony Hamilton's recent delivery of the "Star Spangled Banner" was repeatedly compared to Marvin Gaye's 1983 performance of the same song.

As made clear throughout the years, the National Anthem stands as one of the most difficult songs to sing in a live setting, with several performers failing to successfully deliver. 

However, arguably one of the most celebrated and beloved renditions to date came from the late Marvin Gaye who brought his signature soulful essence to the song in 1983. Now, some 36 years later, Hamilton, from the reactions of viewers, took a page out of the legend's playbook and knocked it out of the park.
