Dance Teacher Leads Students In Viral 'Thriller' Flash-Mob Style

The horror visual left its mark once again.
  • As children are in the Halloween spirit, a group of Michigan students recently recreated the famed Michael Jackson spooky music video, “Thriller.” A K-8 dance teacher, Jennifer Hawkins, from the Birney charter school of Southfield, Michigan led her students down the school’s main hallway hitting every move.

Since the video of the event was uploaded to YouTube, it has gained the attention of nearly 40K viewers, going viral on Twitter.

  • The 1982 classic has gone down in horror music video history. Featured on the late King of Pop’s highest-selling album, according to Vox full-length project has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. Costing $900K to make the eerie visual, “Thriller” went on to win a Grammy, as well as MTV Video Music Video Awards for Best Overall Performance in a Video, Viewer’s Choice, and the Best Choreography in a Video. The Thriller album went on to win eight Grammys including Record Of The Year for “Beat It,” Album Of The Year and Producer Of The Year.

The 14-minute landmark short film was remade and premiered in 3D at the 2017 Venice Film Festival, along with the restored documentary Making Michael Jackson’s Thriller. After re-entering the Billboard Hot 100 last year it reached the No. 31 spot.

Followers on Twitter have been moved by the students’ rendition, calling Hawkins “The Undisputed Teacher of The Year.”
