Peter Rosenberg may not agree with Chuck D's disparaging views on Hot 97 as it relates to hip hop culture, but he's making amends out of respect for the Public Enemy frontman. Rosenberg dedicated his "The Realness" segment on Hot 97 Monday (July 7) to apologizing for accusing Chuck D of "trolling," among other things.

"To have used that voice in any way to show what was perceived as public disrespect to the great Chuck D is something I am truly regretful for," he said. "Chuck D is one of the main reasons that I'm so passionate about hip hop in the first place. He's one of the main reasons that I seek out revolutionary music like dead prez or Immortal Technique or Homeboy Sandman. It is with that same passion that I felt the need –– as I have many times before –– to defend Hot 97 and Hot 97's Summer Jam. That part was okay. Saying anything disparaging publicly towards Chuck D? That was not okay, and for that Chuck, I am truly sorry."

Chuck D went up against Hot 97 because the artists on their annual Summer Jam bill used the n-word during performances. The hip hop vet noted the event as the "last straw" for him and vowed to change "the face and sound" of urban radio.  

Responding to Rosenberg's apology statement, Chuck D reiterated that his issue wasn't with him specifically. "I never called @rosenbergradio out," he tweeted. "THIS is a BIGGER issue than HE & no way I considered this personal. He simply played Crispus Attucks here."

Including Hot 97 personality Ebro Darden in the tweets, Chuck D stated that "there are some things you can't defend" and advised Rosenberg to step aside, writing, "HE should now sit in a corner & watch. Get him some popcorn."
