Rihanna's MAC Lipstick Leads to Herpes Lawsuit
A Rihanna fan says she got herpes after attending one of the superstar's concerts. The Harlem woman claims to have contracted the incurable virus thanks to a tube of red lipstick.
Starkeema Greenidge filed a lawsuit in the Manhattan Supreme Court alleging that she was given a sample of RiRi Woo, a red MAC lipstick endorsed by the 25-year-old old. Greenidge was attending Rihanna's Diamonds World tour stop at Brooklyn's Barclay's Arena, where she was encouraged by a MAC rep to try on the makeup.
Greenidge told TMZ that a day later her "whole lip was irritated and hugely swollen." She believes the virus spread after the lipstick was applied directly to customer's lips rather than the more sanitary method of using disposable wipes to extract the color.
Getting herpes forced Greenidge out of her waitressing job for two weeks, costing her "a lot of money," she claims.
While the 28-year-old is going after the cosmetics giant and not Rihanna, she believes that the suit is absolutely necessary. "This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done," she said.
Neither MAC nor Rih has responded to the allegations.
The "Pour It Up" singer signed with the company in February to launch her RiRi (Hearts) line. And, in a bit of an ironic PR nightmare, MAC also recently signed Nicki Minaj to help raise AIDS awareness.
