Tyler Perry Cancels "House of Payne"
Tyler Perry has announced that his first foray into televison comedy, Tyler Perry's House of Payne, will end after seven seasons.
Despite the show being branded "one of the worst of the modern era" by publications like USA Today, House of Payne has been highly popular on TBS. The show's two-part premiere broke records in June 2007 after netting 5.2 and 5.8 million viewers respectively.
The show also led to Perry's second sitcom on the network, Meet The Browns. But now that Perry has announced plans for a third cable comedy, he says it's time to move on. In a statement, Perry wrote: "Even though it will be sad to say goodbye to House of Payne, I'm really looking forward to exploring new territory with For Better or Worse."
For Better or Worse is based on Perry's hit play and film, Why Did I Get Married?" Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White, who played Angela and Marcus in the film adaptation, will reprise their roles for the new TV project.
