Rick Ross: 2014 Will Be a Big Year for MMG
The first four months of 2014 have already been busy for Maybach Music Group, but the best is yet to come. Rick Ross hit up D.C. radio station 93.9 WYKS to talk about signing local rapper Fat Trel, and the future of MMG.
Trel signed with Ross last year, after things with Master P and No Limit Records fell through.
According to Ross, his newest artist has been "reppin' D.C. in a major way, like a G should," and adds to the strong line-up that MMG already boasts. "When you find those jewels with that real passion, such as Wale, such as Fat Trel, it means a lot to you….them are my brothers," he said. "Everybody got they own style, that's why I love MMG the way I do. 'Cause you have Stalley, you have Wale, you have Meek Mill, you have Gunplay, you got Rick Ross and Fat Trel and nobody ain't steppin' on nobody toes. It's gon' be a real big year for us."
MMG isn't just a label, it's more of a family, with Ross at the head. And like any good patriarch, he looks out for the rappers on his roster. The 37-year-old divulges things to his team that he "would've loved" for someone to share with him and leads by example.
"When I'm in the studio, and when I speak of money, I always make sure it lean back to your family and your team," said the 37-year-old. "As artists, that's [how] we should build our foundation. [Those people] are the ones that's been spreading love with us from day one, everybody that's been holding us down and fighting for us from day one. When you do receive those big breaks, that's where it [goes] back into."
Besides Rozay's Mastermind release last month, Meek will unveil his sophomore effort, Dreams Worth More Than Money, sometime this year. MMG hasn't yet announced any additional albums for 2014.
