A man from Chicago faces murder charges after reportedly stabbing his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter and then texting her mother, "See wat u made me do ... u gon pay for this,” said prosecutors.

On Tuesday, John Singleton, 31, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated battery to a police officer in connection with the death of Alexis Stubbs, reported the Chicago Tribune. Although Alexis considered Singleton to be like a stepfather, he senselessly stabbed her over 11 times and left her gasping for air.

"The rage against this 12-year-old, whether it was directed against her in some form or some pent-up anger against the mother ... it was brutal," Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil said before denying bond.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Guy Lisuzzo, Singleton has a history of domestic abuse. In 2014, he choked Alexis’s mother, whose identity remains anonymous. He was jailed for this offense, yet moved back in with Alexis’s mother on June 7.

On Sunday, Singleton and his girlfriend had a fight over cigarettes, which eventually turned into an argument about his living situation, Lisuzzo said.

At one point, Alexis and her mother left to get cigarettes for a neighbor and, while they were out, Alexis’s mother spoke with Singleton on the phone and told him to leave the apartment.  

After they returned to their building, Alexis got out of the car to give cigarettes to her neighbor. As she walked toward her mother's car, Singleton grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground, Lisuzzo said.

Singleton then pulled out a hammer and raised it in Alexis's direction as she was "cowering on the floor in fear," Lisuzzo said.

Singleton then grabbed the girl and took her inside the apartment. Meanwhile, Alexis’s mother phoned 911. Alexis's mother received multiple calls from Singleton, who was threatening to hurt Alexis.

During one of those calls, which went to voice mail, Alexis can be heard screaming "Please, Daddy, don't,” said prosecutors.

When officers arrived, Alexis crawled out of the apartment covered in blood and Singleton, holding a hammer and knife, fled the scene, the prosecutor said.

Alexis "was scared, restless and writhing in pain," Lisuzzo said.

Alexis was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

After leaving the premises, Singleton sent Alexis's mother taunting text messages.

"See wat u made me do," the texts read, according to prosecutors. "I really hope DCFS take her from u if only she survive wat I done to her."

Another text reads, "U [expletive] made me kill my only child ... believe it or not u gon pay for this."

Singleton was discovered early Monday hiding in a portable toilet, prosecutors said. He was arrested and taken into custody, where he admitted to hitting Alexis multiple times with a hammer and stabbing her with a knife, Lisuzzo said.
