Exclusive: Brandy’s New Video “Baby Mama” Celebrates All The Mothers Holding It Down On Their Own
Legendary R&B singer Brandy is back!
Arriving nearly seven months after the release of her song “Freedom Rings,” Brandy is dropping her latest single “Baby Mama” featuring Chance the Rapper.
Produced by Hit-Boy, Brandy’s new track is an anthem for all the mothers out here holding down the home front for their families, man or no man.
“It’s been a long time coming, but music is my passion. It’s my love and I have so much left in me so I wanted to come back to the music world and give it all I got,” Brandy told SiriusXM’s Laura Coates Show.
“[‘Baby Mama’] is celebrating mothers who are out there doing the best for their children and striving in their independence, in their strength, in their power. I just wanted to come out with a powerful message like that.”
The single comes ahead of the award-winning R&B songstress’ forthcoming, untitled seventh studio album and on Monday (May 4) she unveiled a music video for the song directed by Derek Blanks.
The video opens with Brandy, confident in a power suit, with a posse of stylish women by her side inside of a car shop. In this visual, it’s the ladies who run the show to let the fellas know that not only can they hold their own independently, but they can handle their workload as well

Taking us back to early 2000s R&B, Brandy serves fashion, dance breaks, and vintage R&B vocals in celebration of the women striving to do their best and work hard everyday, despite challenging circumstances.
“Baby mama, baby mama / I ain't with that drama, not that baby mama / Baby mama, baby mama, oh, oh (I got my own money) / The world lookin' at me, single mama,” she sings in the chorus. “This song ain't just for me, it's for every mama, yeah / Every day I pray, this for my little mama (Yeah, yeah, yeah) / I'm every woman and a baby mama.”
Chance the Rapper comes in towards the end of the video with a pointed message for all the men wondering why women have left them behind with the line, “she ain’t never really needed you.”
