Daniel Caesar Launching Chess League Becomes ‘Full Circle’ Moment For Him
Daniel Caesar is creating his own chess league with the hopes of helping those like him who want to fight darkness in their lives.
The Canadian singer took to his Instagram on Thursday (April 20) to announce that via Chess.com, he’s creating an online chess league. As a child, he said he learned how to play the game from his father, and also, it helped him “combat the darkness” during the start of the COVID pandemic.

“My father taught me chess when I was a boy, and when quarantine came around it became the only thing that could help me combat the darkness,” he wrote. “Fast forward a few years later and I have my own chess.com league.. Full circle.. I wish i could explain with words how much this means to me but since i cant just meet me on the board.”
Caesar also noted he’ll be hosting a chess tournament starting this Thursday (April 27).
