The rapper was fatally shot on March 18th.

Hosting a celebration of a late one’s life looks different for everyone, and that’s exactly what Goonew’s family showed the world at his memorial service.

BET.com reported the late rapper’s death was caused by a fatal shooting that occurred on Mar. 18th.

The officers responded at about 5:40 p.m. to gunfire in the 3400 block of Walters Lane in District Heights where they found the rapper, whose real name was Markelle Morrow, in a parking lot suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m., police said.

His family told police they believed he was shot in a robbery.

A video went viral of the family celebrating the 24-year-old rising rapper’s life at his memorial service where his dead body was propped up on stage at a nightclub in D.C.

Morrow’s mother and sister, Patrice and Ariana Morrow, chatted with TMZ where his mom shared a traditional funeral service is not what she wanted for her son because her son “loved to have fun.”

“We wanted to give him a party — we didn’t want to give him a funeral,” said Patrice.

“My son loves to have fun and he was the life of the party which is why I sent him home that way — having a party.”

Ariana chimed in and told the outlet what the conversation was like with the funeral home as they prepared to send her brother home.

“My mom made it very clear she didn’t want it to be a funeral — it’s his last show,” said Ariana.

“I don’t want anyone to ever look down on my son and the funeral services took it from there.”
