Box Office: Our Brand Is Crisis, Burnt Both Bomb Big Time
Studios found very few treats awaiting them at the box office this Halloween weekend, with ticket sales amounting to only $74 million — the worst weekend of the year, according to reports. New films Our Brand Is Crisis and Burnt were greatly impacted by the low turnout, grossing only $3.4 million and $5 million respectively and marking the worst openings of Crisis star Sandra Bullock's and Burnt star Bradley Cooper's careers.
The lack of interest in the new films left first place wide open for Matt Damon's The Martian, which took the top spot for the fourth weekend in a row. Goosebumps earned $10.2 million for second place, bringing its domestic total to $57.1 million. Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies took third again with an estimated $8.1 million and a domestic total of $45.2 million. Hotel Transylvania 2 placed fourth, earning $5.8 million in its sixth weekend for a domestic total of $156 million and Burnt rounded out the top five.
Next week will be all about the new James Bond film Spectre, and The Martian's days at the top are numbered.
