He’s back! Herman Cain appeared with comedian Stephen Colbert for “The Rock Me Like a Herman Cain: South Cain-olina Primary Rally” on Friday in Colbert’s hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, during which the funny man declared that he and Cain “are the same man.” And because Cain’s name still appears on the South Carolina presidential primary ballot, even though he dropped out of the race months ago, Colbert is urging voters to cast their ballots for Cain as a way to let him know whether there’s a “hunger for a Stephen Colbert campaign.”

Colbert has been part of the political discourse for the past several months, beginning with the Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow super PAC that he formed last summer to call attention to the new rules that allow groups to raise enormous amounts of money to buy ads to support a favored candidate — or devastate another. The super PAC has run four ads in Charleston, one of which urges voters to vote for Herman Cain as his surrogate.

“Tomorrow, Jan. 21, the two-year anniversary of Citizens United, you can thank the Supreme Court by going into that booth and voting for Herman Cain,” Colbert said, referring to the decision that made it possible for corporations, unions and individuals to donate unlimited amounts to super PACs.

Cain, who has described Colbert’s actions as “clever and humorous,” asked the audience to not to waste their vote by casting a ballot for him. And to anyone who is upset by the pair’s bit of Friday afternoon fun with a rather serious issue, he says, “lighten up.”
