Here’s How Lil Yachty Got Both Drake And DaBaby On ‘Oprah’s Bank Account’

“Drake follows my finsta, which is crazy.”

As he gears up for the release of his third and final installment of the Lil Boat album series, Lil Boat 3, Lil Yachty dropped off a new single to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

  • On Monday (Mar. 9), the Quality Control MC unveiled “Oprah’s Bank Account,” which came with two surprise features: Drake and DaBaby. The single was accompanied by a hilarious 9-minute visual (which included skits) that re-imagined entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey’s eponymous talk show.

Alongside the single drop, Yachty spoke to Complex about the forthcoming release. He also touched on how he managed to get two of music’s biggest and hottest artists in the game right now on the same track. Surprisingly, neither of them were his first choice. Yachty revealed that he originally had Lizzo in mind, but Drake wound up on the track after he heard a snippet that the 22-year-old shared on his finsta account.

“I sent it to her, and I don’t want to say she didn’t like it, because she never got back to me on it, which was cool. I understand people are busy. And then I posted a snippet on my finsta. Drake follows my finsta, which is crazy. And he was like, ‘Yo, this is dope,’ which blew my mind,”  he told Complex.  “Of course that’s the homie, but him showing love like that, [was cool]. Then he [told me to] send it through. I didn’t know he was serious, but he got on it.”

  • DaBaby hopped on board after Yachty visited him at a meet-and-greet in Atlanta where he invited him back to the studio and played the track for him there.

“I didn’t necessarily know he was going to like this song or want to get on it,” Yachty recalled. “He came [to the studio] and I played it, and he loved it. He thought it was a hit, so he hopped on it, which was really cool. That was maybe three or four days after I made it.”

As for how his thoughts on coming back with new music after being quiet for the past year, Yachty said he’s ready to “pop [his] s**t.”

“It’s a lot of misconceptions and misleading stories out there that a lot of people believe in when I read a lot of comments. There’s a lot of negativity, but I won’t let it break me or upset me, because it is what it is,” he elaborated. “I’ll talk more on everything sooner or later.”
