Marla Gibbs Prepares to Tell Her Life Story in New Memoir ‘It's Never Too Late'
Renowned actress Marla Gibbs is finally ready to unveil her life story in her upcoming memoir “It’s Never Too Late.”
Gibbs is celebrated for her iconic portrayals on beloved shows like "The Jeffersons" and "227."
In a statement shared on Wednesday, July 26, the Emmy-nominated actress said, “My hope is that my memoir will serve as an inspiration to those that continue to show me love and support.”
“I believe no matter the challenges one faces, it is never too late to turn your life around or make a difference,” the 92-year-old industry veteran added. “I am grateful and I am ready to reveal the challenges I overcame as a way of service to those who wish to transform their tests into testimonies.”
Gibbs' highly anticipated book will be released in collaboration with Amistad — which is an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers dedicated to celebrating Black narratives.
The memoir promises to be a compelling journey. From her upbringing in Chicago's South Side to her illustrious rise to fame in Hollywood, the actress will share a captivating account of her life. The memoir is set to hit shelves in the fall of 2024.
Gibbs began her career in the 70s acting at local Black theaters in Los Angeles. She then went on to star in movies such as “Sweet Jesus” and “Preacher Man.” In 1975, she would go on to star as Florence Johnston, a family maid in the iconic comedy series “The Jeffersons.” The role earned her an Emmy nomination for “Best Supporting Actress.”
She most recently appeared in shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Ms. Pat Show,” and “Days of Our Lives.”
