Stephen A. Smith Calls Out Democrats for Running An ‘Aging’ Biden Against Trump

While Biden is 81 and Trump is 77, the ESPN “First Take” host believes the president is too old to run again.

Everyone knows Stephen A. Smith for his perspectives on sports, but he has some opinions about the current state of politics, too and he’s not afraid to share them.

According to The Hill, during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday (Jan.23)  the host of ESPN’s First Takethat it’s absurd that Democrats are hoping that President Joe Biden, an octogenarian, can beat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

“It is an absolute disgrace on the part of the Democratic Party — Democrats, liberals … progressives — and you’re begging an 82-year-old man to run for reelection,” Smith argued.

“What the hell have you been doing that in the year 2024 when you have to rely on an 82-year-old to beat a 78-year-old man with four indictments, 91 counts against him?” Smith asked. “How the hell are we sitting here in the year 2024 and that’s what you need in order to beat him?”

Howard Stern, who’s been highly critical of Trump and his supporters, doesn’t think that the Democratic Party has a candidate problem but that the current political climate is in shambles.

“I think the Democratic Party is in a bind because the public has gotten so wacky,” Stern told Smith. “It has nothing to do with the candidates. There are many fine candidates.”

“The country has gone so berserk that literally, you can’t even get good people, qualified people to even run for office,” Stern continued.

“They’re dropping like flies because when you run for office now, you get death threats. You get people ready to blow you up,” Stern explained. “They’re ready to f— you over. I think some of our best and brightest are saying ‘hell no’ to politics.”

While Biden is actually 81 and Trump is 77,  Smith wanted to be clear that his problem is with Biden’s age and not anything personal or policy-driven.

“I’m not saying that Biden is awful,” Smith said. “What I’m saying is, you’re asking me to look at an 82-year-old man who seems to have lost a little bit of his step at the very least, and say, ‘Invest four more years in him.’”

“I have nothing against the man personally,” Smith added. “My issue with him is his age.”

Although Smith takes issue with Biden’s age, the president is heading to the Democratic nomination without much competition on the Democratic side. During New Hampshire’s primary on Tuesday (Jan. 23),  Biden won easily in the Granite State as a write-in candidate, according to Decision Desk HQ. Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips and author Marianne Williamson came in second and third respectively.

Biden’s name wasn’t on the ballot in New Hampshire after he didn’t file for the primary to be in compliance “with the new Democratic National Committee-sanctioned primary calendar.”

In addition to his issue with Biden being an older candidate, Smith also said that he would like to take on Trump in a debate and the former president would be no match for him in a one-on-one duel of words.

“I’d eat him alive … I wouldn’t run for the presidency, but I’d debate Trump any day of the week,” Smith said. “Any day of the week. Name the time and place, and I’ll show up.”
