Dumb ruled at the box office this weekend. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels' Dumb and Dumber To trounced the competition to take the top spot with $38.1 million in ticket sales. The success of sequel proves that audiences still love the bumbling duo over 20 years after the original film hit theaters.
Moving down the chart, Big Hero 6 and Interstellar, both in their second weekends at the box office, held strong. The animated family comedy came in at number two with $36 million, and Interstellar fell to third place with $29.2 million.
Beyond the Lights, starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker, charmed audiences and brought in $6.5 million in ticket sales. The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, tells the story of a rising pop star driving to the brink of suicide until she's saved by, and falls in love with, a cop.
Gone Girl rounded out the top five with $4.6 million.
Next week, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is poised to dominate the box office, but will the third installment of the multi-billion franchise live up to the legacy?
