A disturbing viral video captured the terrifying moment a 30-year-old man in Morocco set himself on fire after getting caught shoplifting.

According to Agadir24.info, the unidentified man entered an Agadir mall on Sunday to steal merchandise. During the act, officials at the mall stopped him and made him pay for the items.

Later in the afternoon, the man returned and lit himself on fire at the entrance of the market. A security guard at the store attempted to intervene by running after the man in order to extinguish the fire.

Eventually, Moroccan officials arrived on scene and the man was transported to Hassan II Hospital with second- and third-degree burns on his face, neck, chest, stomach, and hands.

He was later transferred to the Mohammed VI Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

According to the local news outlet, the man had a criminal record.
