BET Issues Statement on Employee Who Died After Receiving Butt Injections
Kelly Mayhew, an employee of BET, died Saturday at the age of 34 after receiving butt injections from an unlicensed plastic surgeon in the basement of a Queens, New York, home. BET Networks has issued a statement expressing their condolences to Mayhew's loved ones following her unexpected death.
"We are saddened by the death of our colleague and friend, Kelly Mayhew. Our hearts go out to her family and we extend our deepest sympathies for their loss."
The woman who performed the fatal procedure fled her Queen's home office shortly after Mayhew began having trouble breathing. Mayhew's mother began performing CPR on her daughter and called 911. Mayhew was taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Mayhew, who is from Suitland, Md., traveled with her mother to the basement apartment to receive the butt injections. Her mother said she thought the doctor was legitimate, NBC New York reported. Police are searching for the suspect, who sped off in a gray SUV, the New York Daily News reports.
A neighbor told NBC New York that they had no clue there was a fraudulent practice happening at the house.
"I'm very surprised," one neighbor said. "If I knew, I'd report it."
