South African Group Aims to Work With Tyler Perry
Tyler Perry appears to be continuing on with his plans to branch out into projects that charter unfamiliar territory. The writer-director-producer-actor may be a part of a project on the choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The Grammy award-winning group has their sights set on the Atlanta-based entertainment mogul to helm a film about their musical journey to stardom.
The group’s publicist, Andile Mqwebu, confirmed with the South African newspaper the Times-Live that Perry had been approached to be a part of the movie. Mqwebu said, "We are busy with talks to bring Tyler Perry on board. Though we do not have a concrete deal yet, it looks promising, and the people we are speaking through are as excited as we are about the project.” The feature film is expected to be filmed in South Africa. Mqwebu noted the group had applied for funding from the National Lottery and other foreign organizations to finance the project.
